Neal A. Bowen, PhD
Hidalgo Medical Services
Dr. Neal Bowen became a counseling psychologist in order to work to alleviate the suffering associated with trauma – especially that arising from simply living in war zones. As he deepened his understanding of this, the focus of course expanded to include the intergenerational transmission of trauma, and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on communities, families, and individuals. To keep himself grounded, he loves to walk – whether hiking in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico, in National Parks (including in other countries), or on the streets of cities – with a good dog as company! He also loves to read, sometimes seated in a good cafe, with a dog lying nearby, in English, Italian, and Spanish – particularly poetry, plays, and novels. Other passions that keep him balanced include a wide array of music; dancing – especially Zumba and Salsa; and caring for and playing with his adult children and young grandchildren.
